Dear Amigan,
Thanks again for signing up to our newsletter and for the interest in Amiga X. We’re so sorry it’s taken this long since our last update but today, finally we have some major news. We will also tell you a little bit about why it’s taken so long.
Those of you that have followed the Amiga X project from the start know that it was initially a complete Amiga emulation computer with a keyboard. Right now, unfortunately as we explain in the video, this is not possible. So we had to choose another way forward. No matter which path we chose we knew that many of you will be disappointed. But we also hope that some of you will be pleased to see what we’ve ended up with.
Basically, we have decided to only continue the work on the Frontend for now. The decision to skip the hardware side of the project, at least for now, has given us the opportunity to put a lot of love into the frontend.
The frontend, which we now call AmUX, is so much more than an Amiga games launcher. It is what we call a complete Amiga Nostalgia Emulator. It includes Games, Applications, Demos, Music Disks, Bootable machines, Magazines and more.
It is portable which means that it will run on Windows, MacOS, and Linux from the start. It should also be able to port to other OSes quite easily and if enough interest we will create a version for SMBs like the Raspberry Pi so that you can install it on a small box that you have in your living room – much as originally intended for Amiga X.
We hope you’ll like what you’ll see and we would love to hear your opinions.
Please see our video update for more information and demo.

Moving forward
Our next step is to launch a Kickstarter. We don’t necessarily NEED to run a Kickstarter to realize this project but we will be using it to measure the interest for it. If it should prove that there isn’t enough interest, there is no sense in us using all of our free time to finish it. We are planning on launching the Kickstarter towards the end of February. Any feedback we get until then will be greatly appreciated and taken into consideration for what we launch.
Kickstarter pledges will include cheap lifelong subscription (only available through Kickstarter), early access, beta access and much more. Oh yeah, and we won’t forget those of you that have already expressed your interest in beta testing.
If the Kickstarter is successful we will probably be handing out early access after a few months and a finished product late summer. We will have a schedule ready for the Kickstarter.
Thanks again,
Thomas & Hans,
The AmUX team
